Disclaimer
It has come to my attention that there are several things that have the possibility of being misunderstood about the Hojo fandom in general. I, for one, do not encourage, condone, or celebrate any of the inhumane actions taken by Professor Hojo in any of the games. Final Fantasy is a work of fiction, and, as an escapist, I like my fiction to stay, just that, fictional.
When I started attempting to get people to stop hating Hojo back in 1998, it was like a challenge I enjoyed more than anything else in the world. It was an outpouring of all these hopes for redemption, and an intellectual battle I would get in with honorable opponents, and it was still satisfying to have conversations like this, even if I didn't win. I know a lot of it was based on denial now, and with new-canon Hojo (Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus), it seems that Square-Enix has made Hojo a favorite one-dimensional hobby-horse for all the problems of FF7's world, but the Hojo in my head still has compassion for Lucrecia, if not much else.
I still maintain this shrine to Hojo in my stubborn resistance of new-canon. If you've come to this place looking for an unbiased Dirge of Cerberus review, I do not regret to inform you that this is the wrong place to look for such an outlook, since I haven't played Dirge past the first stage. Once I do manage to get up the will to play it, I'll probably write another essay based on denial, but that, I will save for later.
There have been questions about the previous owner of hojo.org and the drama she was involved with. There is a section on this site for information regarding this, and those who look hard enough will find it. I would rather say, at this point, that up front, Renee was not the driving force behind this drama, and that she is currently beyond its influence, and deservedly so.
